New Mexico LAP Roundup

This week’s featured lawyer assistance program is New Mexico’s Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers, which “provides confidential professional peer assistance to Bar members in need of help because of substance abuse, mental illness, or emotional distress and provides advice regarding the State Bar program.”

Run by the Lawyers Assistance Committee of the State Bar of New Mexico, Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers offers a 24 hour, confidential hotline and two regularly scheduled monthly meetings. Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers also provides educational presentations, does 12-Step calls and interventions, and coordinates and follows up on inpatient treatment.

Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers helps judges and lawyers, and those who care about them, deal with problems related to alcoholism, drugs, and depression. The website includes several warning-sign checklists.

To reach the Lawyers Concerned for Lawyers hotline, call 1-800-860-4914 statewide or in Albuquerque 228-1948. The Lawyers Assistance Committee co-chairs are William F. Lang and William K. Stravert.
